Kid’s Drawing at Paul’s Tree Farm

Paul’s Tree Farm is having its seventh annual Kid’s Drawing to give away a lifelike HO gauge electric train set “Golden Thunder.” This year’s contest is for kids ages 8 to 18 years. The train set drawings have proven to be very popular.

The drawing will be held Dec. 15 so the winners can be notified in time to pick up their prizes to enjoy for their Christmas celebration. No purchase is necessary to enter the contest.

Paul’s Tree Farm will also be collecting donations again this year for the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation, which is the charitable branch of the National Christmas Tree Association. The Christmas SPIRIT Foundation has implemented the Trees for Troops Program in conjunction with FedEx.

This year Trees for Troops plan to deliver more than 15,000 trees to all branches of the military, with approximately 300-400 trees being shipped overseas for troops in the Middle East. Since 2005, the program has delivered more than 50,000 Real Christmas Trees to military families at more than 50 bases across the U.S. and overseas. Depending on the generosity of contributors and participants, The Christmas SPIRIT Foundation is able to carry out their mission of furthering the Christmas spirit through programs serving kids, families and the environment.

There will be a donation box set up in Paul’s Tree Farm Craft Shop so those visiting Paul’s will be able to donate as they are checking out. It’s a great cause!

Brodhead schools seek to collect 7000 pounds of non perishable items for White Gifts

This year the Brodhead School District is holding a Non Perishable food drive to bring canned goods and other non-perishable items to Brodhead White Gifts.

The Food Drive will begin on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 and end on Friday, December 4, 2009. Each school has set a goal of pounds of items to be donated. The high school is aiming for 5000 pounds while both the Middle School and Elementary are aiming for 2000 pounds combined.

The Middle School focus is on boxed items. This makes the Brodhead School District goal 7000 pounds! According to Ruth Brobst, the director of White Gifts in Brodhead, about 50 families or 200 people in our Brodhead community will benefit from this generous donation. According to Mrs. Brobst, the following items are most needed at White Gifts: Peanut butter, jelly, canned meats, canned pastas, macaroni and cheese, cereal, fruit, toilet paper, paper towels, soap, hand soap, and laundry soap.

Although this is taking place at the schools, we are asking the community to help us in taking care of our community. We will be having drop sites for all donations at the Brodhead Piggly Wiggly, Brodhead Farm and Home, and also at the schools. We also are encouraging local businesses to make a donation by holding their own food drives with their employees.

Tanner Strunz and Dan Gerke, both senior FFA members, are in charge of organizing this food drive. Their goal is to exceed the past years donations and to establish a project that continues to run and help people in need throughout the year. To achieve this goal, they will be maintaining an aluminum can drive. All funds raised through donations and the help of the community will go to benefit non-profit organizations, such as White Gifts. To help in the collection of cans, their will be a 10’x10’ signed cage at the entrance of Brodhead Farm and Home for all donations of Aluminum cans. All drop sites for can food and aluminum will be available on November 17.

How can you help? Everyone in the community is invited to donate to our charities this holiday season. With your help and support of our community, we can make sure that no one goes hungry throughout the year! Thank you in advance for your support.

Renew vehicle registration online

These days everyone is looking to save a little money, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offers advice on how to do just that, particularly with vehicle registration renewal.  “I am continuously surprised at the number of people we see coming into the DMV customer service centers paying a $3 counter service fee to renew their vehicle registrations,” notes Kristina Boardman, director of the DMV Bureau of Field Services.  “It’s more convenient and cheaper to do it online.”  Online vehicle registration renewal has a transaction fee of just one dollar, and can be done from home any time of day or night.   “Clearly online is the way to go if you want to save time and money,” says Boardman.  Registration renewal can also be mailed for the cost of a postage stamp.

DMV reminds customers that, like vehicle registration renewal, there are many other services do not require a visit to a service center and are available online.
